Grand Prix hotels: hold a refundable Cotai rate now, decide by 16 November
Published 28 October 2026
The 73rd Macau Grand Prix runs Thursday 19 to Sunday 22 November 2026 on the Guia Circuit, which puts us three weeks out. Our Grand Prix hotel prices investigation, checked on Trip.com on 25 October, has been read mostly for its headline numbers: Artyzen Grand Lapa up 185.6%, Hotel Lisboa up 72.5%, no race premium at all at The Venetian or The Parisian. But the most useful split in that table was not the prices. It was the cancellation terms. The two Cotai resorts were selling race weekend at ordinary November prices on rates you could cancel free until 11:59 PM on Monday 16 November. The two trackside hotels had repriced and gone non-refundable. That split creates a window, and the window is what this page is about: hold the refundable Cotai room this week, put 16 November in your diary, and make the real decision then.
The numbers this rests on
Everything below comes from the one check: five hotels, the same three-night stay (Thursday in, Sunday out, one room, two adults, cheapest rate shown on Trip.com, totals including taxes and fees), priced on 25 October 2026 for Grand Prix weekend and the weekends either side of it. The full table and method are in the prices investigation. The short version:
| Hotel | 19 to 22 Nov (Grand Prix) | 12 to 15 Nov (before) | 26 to 29 Nov (after) | Grand Prix rate terms, as checked |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Parisian Macao | US$849 | US$911 | US$798 | Free cancellation until 16 November |
| The Venetian Macao | US$1,088 | US$1,119 | US$985 | Free cancellation until 16 November |
| Artyzen Grand Lapa | US$1,171 | US$410 | US$417 | Non-refundable |
| Hotel Lisboa | US$871 | US$505 | US$494 | Non-refundable |
| Galaxy Hotel | No availability | US$1,261 | No availability | No bookable rate for race weekend |
Read the Parisian line twice, because it is the one that makes the strategy work. Race weekend, the weekend everyone assumes is the expensive one, was US$62 cheaper than the ordinary weekend before it, and the rate could be cancelled free until three days before the racing starts. The Venetian line says the same thing at a higher tier: US$1,088 for race weekend against US$1,119 the weekend before, on the same refundable terms.

Why 16 November is the date that matters
It is the last free exit. On the terms we checked, Monday 16 November at 11:59 PM is when free cancellation ends for those two Cotai Grand Prix rates, three days before practice opens the race weekend on Thursday 19 November. A booking made this week is an option, not a commitment, up to that moment.
It protects you in both directions. If race week pricing wakes up late, as it well may once the remaining Cotai rooms start to fill, you are holding a pre-premium rate. If prices soften instead, nothing stops you rebooking at the lower rate and cancelling the first booking inside its window. The only way to lose is to forget the date, which is why the deadline belongs in your diary on the day you book, with the recheck set for the day before it.
One caution, stated plainly. The 16 November deadline belongs to the specific rates we priced on 25 October. Rates change, and a different rate at the same hotel can carry a different deadline. When you book, the deadline printed on your rate is the one that governs. If it matches 16 November, the plan above works exactly as described. If it is earlier, work to the earlier date.
Who should not use the refundable play
Anyone set on sleeping beside the circuit. The refundable window does not exist there. Artyzen Grand Lapa at US$1,171 and Hotel Lisboa at US$871 had already done their Grand Prix repricing by 25 October, and both rates were non-refundable. These are small hotels a short walk from the track, the cheap rooms went early, and what remains is a take-it-or-leave-it price. Book one only if the trip is certain. And if a track view is the point of the booking, remember that a track-facing room is a request, not a room type: ask for it explicitly and get it confirmed in writing, as our hotel views guide sets out.

Anyone holding out for Galaxy Hotel. Galaxy had no bookable rate on Trip.com for Grand Prix weekend when we checked, and none for the weekend after either, although it was selling the weekend before at US$1,261. That does not prove every channel is sold out, and inventory can reappear. But a plan that depends on it appearing is a bet, not a booking. Hold a refundable Cotai room first, then switch if Galaxy opens up.

If you miss the window: the weekend after
There is one more set of numbers in that table worth having if race weekend slips away from you. The weekend after the Grand Prix, Thursday 26 to Sunday 29 November, was the cheapest of the three weekends at The Venetian (US$985), The Parisian (US$798) and Hotel Lisboa (US$494), and Artyzen Grand Lapa falls back to US$417 after charging US$1,171 for race weekend. The racing is over by then and the city is back to normal, so it is a Macau trip rather than a race trip. But for anyone whose dates were only loosely tied to the Grand Prix, it was the value weekend of the three we priced, by a wide margin at the trackside hotels.
Tickets: the other half of the booking
A held room is only half a race trip. As our booking timeline sets out, weekend grandstand tickets sold first and the official weekend allocation was down to single stands per day when it was checked on 17 October. The bookable routes that remain are our two ticket partners: Klook sells a weekend stand ticket bundled with a one-way Cotai Water Jet ferry from Hong Kong, from US$55.69 as checked on 21 October 2026, with the physical ticket collected in Sheung Wan between 14 and 22 November; KKday sells the race tickets on their own. Book the ticket in the same sitting as the room, not after it.

The one-line version: this week, hold The Parisian or The Venetian on the refundable rate while race weekend is still priced like an ordinary weekend, diary 16 November, and decide then. It is the rare Grand Prix move that costs nothing to make and nothing to undo.
Grand Prix refundable rates FAQ
What is the 16 November deadline for Grand Prix hotels?
In our Trip.com price check of 25 October 2026, the Grand Prix weekend rates at The Venetian Macao and The Parisian Macao (19 to 22 November, three nights, two adults) could be cancelled free until 11:59 PM on Monday 16 November 2026. That is the last date to walk away from those held rates at no cost, on the terms we saw. The rate you book shows its own deadline at checkout, and that deadline is the one that governs your booking.
Which Grand Prix hotel rates were refundable when you checked?
The two Cotai resorts. The Parisian Macao was US$849 for the three Grand Prix nights and The Venetian Macao was US$1,088, both with free cancellation until 16 November on the rates checked on 25 October 2026. The peninsula hotels beside the circuit, Artyzen Grand Lapa (US$1,171) and Hotel Lisboa (US$871), were non-refundable, and Galaxy Hotel had no bookable rate on Trip.com for race weekend.
Why book a Grand Prix hotel now if I might cancel?
Because on 25 October 2026 the two refundable Cotai rates carried no Grand Prix premium: The Parisian's race weekend price was below its price for the weekend before, and The Venetian's was too. Holding one of those rates costs nothing if you cancel inside the free window, and it protects you if the premium arrives as the race gets closer and rooms fill.
What if I want a hotel beside the circuit instead?
Then the refundable play does not apply. Artyzen Grand Lapa (US$1,171 for the three nights, up 185.6% on the weekend before) and Hotel Lisboa (US$871, up 72.5%) had already repriced when we checked on 25 October 2026, and both Grand Prix rates were non-refundable. Book one only if the trip is certain, and ask for a track-facing room explicitly, with the answer confirmed in writing.
What is the fallback if Grand Prix weekend prices move against me?
The weekend after the race, 26 to 29 November 2026. In the same 25 October check it was the cheapest of the three weekends at The Venetian (US$985 for three nights), The Parisian (US$798) and Hotel Lisboa (US$494). There is no racing that weekend, so it suits a Macau trip more than a race trip, but it is where the value sat.
